A form of mental disease is depression. That isn’t to say those who suffer from it are somehow lower than others. It does not insinuate that you are a nut case or crazy. You have an illness that strikes the mind and requires medical attention to be cured, that’s it. The stereotype of those afflicted with mental illness being useless head cases is not valid. If you are even slightly under the impression that you may be suffering from depression you can take a depression test online . For a basic idea of where you stand, an on line depression test is a great solution. Seek more information if the results say you show signs of depression.

How you relate to different events and ideas is one of the main concerns of an on line depression test. It looks at how you deal with people in your life. Most of the on line tests have the same basic composition. If you show signs of the disease these tests can help you recognize and admit it. The tests aren’t 100% indicators. If further steps are required such a test can assist in that discovery. Over 17 million Americans have some form of depression. But only a small number, about 1/3, take the step to find help. Once the depression test indicates you may suffer from depression, it’s up to you to seek assistance.

The depression test shows sure signs such as insomnia and problems with eating. It will address your bouts with hopelessness, helplessness and worthlessness. Mood swings from very happy to very sad in a short time will be revealed. Stress related questions will be asked. Why are you depressed? The depression test is only a tool. But rather than drive nails or screws this tool allows you to examine your own psyche. All geared towards the identifying the symptoms of depression.

Depression has chemical, emotional and even DNA elements. One major player in depression is stress. Our lives have lots of elements that can create stress.  The online depression test can only assist you in identifying the prospects in your case. It can only educate you to the potential threat and give you the opportunity to follow up on it. Anti-depressant medication and herbal treatments exist to address the disease. Medicines and herbs are often used in conjunction with group therapy or one on one talk therapy. If you or someone you love thinks they may be suffering from depression take a depression test and see where you stand.

Go to Panic and Anxiety Gone Review for more tips about depression treating and an updated version about manic depression disorder

Manic Depression is another name for Bi-Polar. Bi-Polar people exhibit sudden changes from a very good mood to a very bad mood. It is just another in the many forms of depression. Sadness over an event isn’t manic depression. Manic depression is more serious than that. Bi-polar is just another stage of the general disease depression. Millions of people in the United States are diagnosed with Manic Depression every year. In general 17 million people battle depression each year in America.

Two thirds of those people will never seek medical attention or even a diagnosis. Nothing can be cured if the victim doesn’t go for help. A lot of people refuse to deal with any disease called a mental illness. They do not want to be stereotyped as one who must be out of their mind. Brain diseases are generally quite complex. When diagnosed there is a stigma that isn’t easy to handle. However, as with any form of depression, the affliction does not make you less a person. It doesn’t mean you’re insane. This is a disease like any other. If it’s identified it can be cured.

Medicine is still looking for all the causes of depression. It has been shown that depression can be brought on by many possibilities. Doctors take into consideration many things such as biological factors, the environment, and DNA. We know that it seems to be caused by a chemical imbalance on the brain. We also know that stress can play a major role in the advent of depression. Every day we confront events in life that cause us stress. Work related issues or the dynamics of a dysfunctional family can create it. Depression isn’t a condition for only “them”. It’s a disease for rich people and for poor people. Race isn’t an issue. No racial group is less likely to contract this disease.

There are similar symptoms no matter the type of depression. These include mood swings from happy to sad and serious personality switches. The advent of sleeplessness is another sign of depression. If you have no hope, feel helpless or desperate, that could be depression. When everyday life becomes a chore, that’s depression. But the depression afflicted have hope. Help is available. Doctors can administer drugs or herbal remedies to treat it. Doctors can also help with talk therapy. Support groups can be of assistance with manic depression. Look for assistance first.

Before you can treat depression you have to know exactly what you are dealing with. Depression is no joke; it is a very serious disease that affects millions and millions of Americans each and every year. The most troubling aspect is that only about 1/3 of those people seek help. The old stereotypes of mental illness still bother too many people. People consider their reputation and what others will think of someone who is nuts. Depression has to be diagnosed before it can be treated. Diagnosis doesn’t happen while the sufferer hides the problem. It’s a vicious circle.

Many factors lead to depression. Biological, emotional, environmental and physical factors can result in depression . Don’t overlook the genetic link. Family history plays a major role in many diseases that are passed on down the line. It’s not only genetics but how a family lives together. The stress of everyday life can be brutal. Some undergo a daily fight just to make ends meet. For others the stress comes from making it in the world. Despair can stem from people having been sexually abused, or even emotionally scarred. The list isn’t a short one.

Depression is often hard to find in its early form. Even while a loved one suffers from this disease the signs may be hard to notice. Everyone fights some mild distress once in awhile. This is natural. Real depression is a lot more permanent and serious. Early detection is no longer an option when your whole life begins changing. People with depression feel lonely and fed up with general living. They no longer recognize any hope for their life. Simple daily enjoyments and even sleeping are affected. Treatment is now needed before the illness worsens.

The afflicted needs a renewed sense of hope and meaning for an effective depression treatment. Psychotherapy often accomplishes this.  This is a long term treatment that won’t have immediate results, but it works. Doctors can also administer drugs such as Prozac or Paxil or other anti-depressants . Although they have some serious side effects, these medicines work. Studies also show that some herbs can be effective as depression treatment. Another effective solution is a depression support group. Consult a doctor if you or someone you know shows signs of depression.

I was reading up on some stuff whilst web-surfing a while ago, and I stumbled upon an article about schizophrenia.

Ever since then, I’ve thought that I have it.

I mean, people have always thought I was a little ‘odd’, and I don’t make friends that easily because of my personality.

I have very disorganized thoughts. Like, someone will comment a person on their new shirt which happens to be white, and I’ll think/or say; ‘I bleached my socks yesterday. I heard that when you put bleach on floors, that makes them super clean. I have to clean my room. The walls in my room are green. I like green. Except sometimes green makes me think of puke…I puked when I was like seven one time…’

And sometimes I actually will hear some sort of voice, it’s usually when I’m trying to fall asleep, or when I’m spacing out. It’s really creepy.

And I just don’t understand concepts like Math; I mean if there is a ‘variable’ or something, I have to know what the X is for….why is it there? What does it mean?

And sometimes, I’ll have these really weird thoughts like; What if I’m actually dead, and I just don’t know? What if I’m in a coma right now, and this is just a dream that I think I’m living in?

And I’m really paranoid all the time, I think people are talking about me, and I can’t trust anyone.

I don’t know whats wrong with me, but If I told my mom, she would probably freak out, or ask me if I’m joking, and I have this extreme phobia of hospitals.

What should I do?

I don't think you are schizophrenic, probably just an odd person. I mean, you may have some sort of heightened risk for it, but at the moment you are fine. The voices at night are called Hypnagogic Hallucinations. A lot of people get them. It's pretty normal.

"Hypnagogic hallucinations are episodes of seeing and hearing things as one is falling asleep. As the subject drifts off to sleep, he/she moves into a state that combines the environment, of which the subject is still partially aware, with a dream-like state of sleep, in which he might see people and hear them talking."

But, if you start hearing voices during the day and you aren't tired at all, then you should see a psychiatrist/psychologist.

My schizophrenia came on after I took extacy for the first time, but I've learned to deal with it and (somewhat) enjoy the ride? Yes, I know it was dum to take X, especially with a family history od schizophrenia, but its done now. at first, I had the usual negative symptoms (eg, blunted emotions, blunted everything really, major prolonged depression) but I've curbed that, and its been 4 years since I've had any negative symptoms. (negative symptoms in the medicinal term)

The symptoms I've still have are hallucinations, and disorganized thinking, but I've managed to realize that my delusions are just that, delusions. When I go to bed and close my eyes, I see people come up to me and walk away, and the most recurring one, a hooded man dancing (like rave dancing) I know this sounds strange, but I think I can cope with these symptoms.

I want to know if there are any other schizophrenia sufferers out there who have learned to cope with it like this without meds.

Background info: Male, 21, Concert quality pianist, MENSA member, college student.

appreciate the support.
i know, lots of typos, i usually edit my writing, sry
oh, and I'd also like to know if its still possible for me to go apeshit, even though i've beat this thing for almost four years (and I've only really been affected for 5)
or better said, what are the odds that I could relapse into depression? I feel that they are very low, because i've seemed to manage it pretty well so far…

thoughts? comments?

you should get meds for it..my uncle has it and with his meds he has no symptoms, unless he stops then it reoccurs, but i think that you should get some just so you dont have to cope with it..
